The Junior League of South Brevard, Inc. presented its 6th annual Kids in the Kitchen event on March 5, 2011. This is such a wonderful community event that would not be possible without the support of our generous donors and volunteers. Close to 200 “kids” ages five to twelve, from across the county came to learn about healthy eating and exercise, with hopes to curb the growth of childhood obesity.
Celebrity Chef, and spokesperson for the International Junior League’s Kids in the Kitchen, George Stella was the main event at KITK 2011. Chef Stella hosted a kids Iron Chef Challenge. This competition included two teams, each preparing a delicious and kid friendly recipe. They were then “judged” by three judges from the audience. This exciting and friendly competition ended the day on such a high note. Both teams made excellent recipes and the winning team received a wonderful prize.
This free event is one of the league’s biggest examples of improving the community through effective action. A hands-on event truly for the benefit of the community we live in.
