About the Haven...

The Haven is a temporary residential emergency shelter for abused, abandoned and neglected infants and children through the age of six. Our home provides a loving, secure home environment for up to nine children.

The primary goal of The Haven is to nourish and protect the children while starting them on a path of healing and positive self-growth. Through the loving staff of dedicated professionals, The Haven begins to break the tragic cycle of child abuse.

Since 1987, the Haven has taken a positive role in the lives of more than 300 children from Brevard, Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties. While The Haven is partly funded by the state, it is only through the ongoing financial support of individuals and businesses within our community that we can continue to care for our children.

History of the Haven

In 1986, the Haven, a shelter for abused, abandoned, and neglected children, began as a Junior League project. The shelter has been a great blessing for more than 300 children in the community over the past 14 years.

Unfortunately, the need for another shelter became urgent as there were many more children being removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect than there were safe foster homes in which to place them. Consequently, the Haven asked the Junior League of South Brevard, Inc. to construct and furnish a new residential home to shelter an additional nine children. The Junior League accepted this request and the Haven II Project became a reality.

The groundbreaking for the Haven II shown below took place in Jan 2001. Approximately 80 members of the Haven Community attended the ceremony that was coordinated by JLSB members Donna Sullivan and Roberta LeMoine. Architectural designs of the Haven II were donated by Design Mania. Construction of the Haven II was provided by Militano Construction who graciously accepted this project without contractors fees.
