July Sustainer Spotlight
Dr. Kim Deffebach, Licensed Psychologist
Dr. Kim Deffebach was an active league member from 1995-2003 and transitioned to Sustainer Status in 2004. While serving as an Active Member in JLSB, Kim acted as a chair for a variety of committees including Membership Education and Training Committee, Community Research and Project Development (CRPD) Committee, and the Club Esteem Community Project. In 2003, Dr. Deffebach was awarded the Berte Blecke Advocacy Award by the Junior Leagues of Florida State Public Affairs. Dr. Deffebach continued to serve the JLSB as a Sustainer as a Community Advisory Board Member from 2007-2009.
Dr. Kim Deffebach also continues to work with other charitable organizations in Brevard County. She is the current Board President for The Women’s Center, as well as the current Board President for Club Esteem, of which she’s been a Board Member for over 23 years. She has also served as the Volunteer Training Director for The Women’s Center for the past 7 years. In addition, Kim is the Board President and Founder of Amplify South Melbourne.
Kim’s favorite memory of her time in JLSB is “meeting smart, passionate women who are willing to donate their time and resources to making our community better.” Twenty-five years after first joining JLSB, she is still working on community projects and initiatives with many of the women she originally met in the Junior League.
Kim’s growth with the JLSB has helped her in other charity work and in her professional career by teaching her to find her passion and think big, to not be afraid to ask friends and colleagues to sponsor initiatives she supports, to network, be persistent, professional, strategic, and most importantly, to believe she has the ability to make a significant and lasting difference in her community.
Dear Valued JLSB Supporter,
After thoughtful consideration, the Junior League of South Brevard has elected to postpone all public-facing events through Spring of 2020 until the coronavirus (COVID-19) is better understood and controlled. This includes our Girl P.O.W.E.R event on March 28th, our Kids in the Kitchen Event on April 18th, and our 5th Annual Bourbon Ball on May 2nd.
Following the guidance of medical professionals, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the State of Florida and the Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI), we are taking this proactive stance to ensure the health and safety of our members and local community. All members, partners and event guests will receive a follow-up email regarding refunds, credits, and alternate participation options for upcoming events.
We thank our members, leaders, guests and sponsors who were planning and looking forward to these wonderful events and understand the disappointment in this development. However, we hope that you will continue to support and participate in alternate League programming and look forward to seeing you at events again in the near future.
We will continue to communicate all developments that affect our League, members and partners through email, social media channels and our website. In the meantime, we thank you for your understanding and generous support.
We wish you good health.
The Secret Santa program for Melbourne students is 9 years old! This year, we served 155 students from Sabal, Creel, and Harbor City elementary.
Thanks to the support of our sustainers, actives, and the community we were able to donate items such as clothing and hygiene products, books, and school supplies. Each child also got a toy and a few stocking stuffers. The total value of presents this year was over $15,000.
Special thanks to:
